Brigidine College came together in Week 5 to recognise No Way to Bullying Week, with this year’s theme Small acts, BIG impact. The week reminded us that creating a safe, respectful and inclusive community is everyone’s responsibility and that sometimes, the smallest actions can make the biggest difference.
Our focus on Using Your Voice connects strongly with the idea of being authentic and adventurous. Being authentic means having the confidence to be ourselves, while being adventurous can mean having the courage to step forward, speak up and make a positive difference. Using your voice isn’t about being the loudest; it is about knowing when to speak up, stand beside someone, challenge unkind behaviour or simply let someone know they are seen and valued.
Our Big Sister, Little Sister initiative was a wonderful example of this in action during Community time. Bringing Years 7 and 10, Years 8 and 11 along with Years 9 and 12 together, created opportunities to build connection, strengthen belonging and remind one another that we are a community that looks out for our own.
A kind word or a genuine check-in can seem like a small act, but for someone who needs it, it can have a BIG impact.
Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming RUOK? Week activities, discussions and events, including our RUOK? Day Brekky and Q&A panel on Thursday 10 September. Our delicious breakfast menu will be thoughtfully prepared by our Hospitality students and staff, while our Q&A panel will bring together relevant and engaging panellists from a range of services to explore the importance of connection, wellbeing, help-seeking and looking out for ourselves and others.
