2024 SPORT CARNIVALS

2024 SWIMMING CARNIVAL

This year, the annual Brigidine Swimming Carnival was once again held right at the beginning of the term at Warringah Aquatic Centre. It is a great way to start the year, a day filled with lots of colour, fun and participation, some excellent swimming and plenty of house spirit.

This year was the last Swimming carnival for many of our strong swimmers in Year 12, who over their time at Brigidine have represented at external carnivals across two age groups. Their amazing swimming ability was showcased in the All Star 50m race, with five of the girls being in Year 12.

The staff v student relay was once again a highlight – well done to Mrs Ryder, Mrs Skinner, Mr Vale, Mrs Hatherell, Ms Kilshaw and Mr Donlan for a valiant effort, unfortunately narrowly going down to the students.

From the Swimming carnival, we were able to select a team to represent Brigidine at the Broken Bay and IGSA Carnivals. It was fitting to see our Year 12 swimmers win the Senior Division at the Broken Bay carnival, and six students then selected to represent Broken Bay at the NSWCCC carnival, which was held on the same day as the Athletics carnival. Our Senior relay team of Zannah, Audrey, Indie and Sophia have now qualified to represent NSWCCC at the NSW All Schools carnival next term, along with Zannah in multiple individual events.

2024 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Due to track damage at Narrabeen, we had to adjust to a last-minute change of date and venue, moving our carnival to the SOPA competitions arena at Homebush for the first time. We were lucky to have access to such an amazing venue, especially as the weather was less than favourable. We went from 35 degrees and blazing sunshine last year to wet and rainy conditions this year.

The rain did not dampen everyone’s spirit and we forged ahead with the carnival and participation was great – a little rain never hurt anyone. There were some great results on the day with special mention to Sofia Ehnbom, who broke the 15 years long jump record by 50cm – this was a 45 year old record. Well done Sofia!

A representative team will be selected and we look forward to hearing the how our runners go at the CSBB and IGSA Carnivals in Term 3.

2024 CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL

Our final carnival for 2024 was the annual Cross Country carnival. We returned to Acron Oval again, after the success of last year and with the crazy weather of the weekend leading into the carnival, we were fearful that we would have to postpone! However, the sun was out and the course was in fact dryer than last year – a lot less mud!

Participation numbers were huge with 304 competitors signed up to race on the day! It was great to see so many girls challenge themselves with running long distance events that they are not used to, to earn valuable house points!

A representative team will be selected and we look forward to hearing how our runners go at the CSBB and IGSA Carnivals in Term 2.
