2027 Excellence Scholarships – MUSIC

Music Scholarships are offered to students of high level of performance on a chosen instrument and/or vocal ability and available to students entering Years 7-11 in 2027. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement along with outstanding musical ability. Scholarships are offered by way of audition and a subsequent interview with the Head of Music, Head of Cocurricular Music and a member of the College’s Leadership team.

Applicants should also contribute meaningfully to the Brigidine music program and commit to upholding the values of the College. Applicants are not required to sit the academic testing.

Scholarship key dates: Applications open on day Monday 1 November 2025 and close Saturday 7 February 2026.

Financial remission: Successful Music Scholarship applicants will receive part remission of tuition fees at the Principal’s discretion.

Scholarship duration: The Scholarship will commence in Term 1, 2027 and be awarded for the duration of the student’s Secondary schooling. The scholarship will be subject to an annual review by the College.

Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement and are expected to have achieved the following minimum AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) or equivalent grades by the end of the year prior to entry.

Instrumentalists:

  • Year 7- 9: AMEB Grade 3 to 4 (or equivalent)
  • Year 10-11: AMEB Grade 6 or higher (or equivalent)

Vocalists:

  • Year 7- 9: AMEB Grade 2 to 3 (or equivalent)
  • Year 10-11: AMEB Grade 4 or higher (or equivalent)

Applicants will be assessed based on demonstrated potential, evidenced by achieving at least these minimum standards.

It is expected that Applicants awarded a scholarship will:

  • Demonstrate ongoing development, technically and musically. For example, completing one AMEB practical exam per year.
  • Actively participate in at least two Cocurricular music ensembles featuring their scholarship instrument, thereby demonstrating a sustained commitment to the College’s Music Program.
  • Study Music as part of their academic studies throughout their schooling.

In addition, a recipient of an Excellence Scholarship for Music would be required to:

  • Be prepared to perform as a soloist at College functions.
  • Be prepared to attend and take part in Music workshops, camps and tours as organised by the College.
  • Prioritise College music activities before external music commitments.
  • Be prepared to work within the ethos of the College
  • Contribute positively to the College community and commit to upholding the values and policies that govern the College.
  • Demonstrate leadership within the College community. For example, presenting as a role model to younger students, encouraging wide participation across the school in our Music programs, assisting conductors and other musician where necessary and wearing the school and Music Club uniforms with pride.

At the time of online registration for a Music Scholarship, the following documentation will need to be uploaded:

  • Most recent school report
  • Most recent NAPLAN results
  • A copy of the applicant’s most recent music examination report/s (if applicable)
  • Supporting documents pertaining to the applicant’s musical ability
  • Two written references from the applicant’s referees including instrumental or vocal teacher/s, including their contact details (email and phone)
  • Details of audition pieces (see ‘Audition Process’ below)
  • Description of broad involvement across school life and passion for music.

Audition process:

Based on the documentation submitted with the application and the criteria outlined above, selected applicants will be invited to attend an audition. Auditions will last approximately 15 minutes, during which applicants are required to perform two contrasting pieces of their own choice, with a combined duration of no longer than six minutes. One piece may be performed on a second instrument. Applicants must provide their own accompanist if required. In addition to performing, applicants may be asked to sight-read and complete a brief aural test, followed by an interview with the audition panel.

After the auditions, short-listed candidates and their parents will be invited to attend an interview with the Principal. Successful scholarship recipients will be announced in September following this process. Upon completion of the process, all applicants will receive written notification regarding the outcome of their application.

Application process: All applications are completed through Academic Assessment Services (AAS).
