At Brigidine College, knowing and celebrating our story and heritage is an essential part of Founders Day and the week that surrounds it, known as Spirit Week.
This week, we acknowledge our founders, Daniel Delany, Nano Nagle and St Brigid, as well as the many students, parents and teachers who have come before us to create this community. It is a community which we are very proud of today, with many opportunities for our young women to thrive, feel valued and make a difference in the world.
Days like Founders Day and the Founders Day Mass on Wednesday provide a real sense of belonging for our students. They belong to a community that cares for others and raises funds for Kildare Ministries Community Works, such as Saltbush in 2026. They belong to a school that celebrates these special days with joy and sisterhood. We take time away from our usual learning and activities for a single day to nurture and celebrate the gifts we share, and to see ourselves as part of something meaningful and worthwhile.
A special part of belonging to a community and a supportive family is that our young people can be bold and daring as they strive for individual achievement. Our success across so many areas of school life in Semester 1 is clear evidence of this. When young people are grounded and experience a strong sense of belonging, they are emboldened to step forward and give their best, knowing that their family and community will support them.
In the same way, when we know our heritage and story, and understand who we are and where we came from, the world opens up with new horizons and opportunities to pursue. Our faith community at Brigidine grounds and supports each individual through belonging. With this strong sense of connection and sisterhood, our young women can dare to make a difference in the world and live up to their full potential and many gifts.
