As we move through a busy and productive term, I would like to update our community on several important matters currently shaping College life.
Grounded in the Brigidine charism, we continue to seek ways to nurture a community where faith, strength, compassion and justice are lived each day. The spirit of St Brigid calls us to be people of courage and wisdom, committed to hospitality, excellence and care for others. These values underpin not only our relationships, but also the decisions we make as a college community.
Comprehensive Timetable Review
Over recent months, the College has commenced a comprehensive review of our timetable structures and daily learning organisation. This process reflects our commitment to ensuring that our educational practices continue to support the evolving needs of our students and staff, while remaining faithful to our mission of educating young women who are confident, compassionate and engaged learners.
The review is considering a broad range of factors, including, academic compliance and engagement, curriculum delivery, student wellbeing, cocurricular balance, staff collaboration, and the effective use of learning time throughout the school day. Importantly, this work is not simply about changing periods or schedules; it is about thoughtfully examining how time can best support learning, reflection, connection and the flourishing of each student entrusted to our care.
In the Brigidine tradition, we value wisdom and discernment. As such, consultation is a vital part of this process. Staff, students and families will all have opportunities to contribute feedback and perspectives as the review progresses. We are approaching this work carefully and deliberately, recognising that any future changes must genuinely enhance the educational experience and wellbeing of our girls.
I thank our students and our staff for their generosity and thoughtful engagement as this important work continues.
Retirement of Mr Brian Loughland
This term also marks a significant milestone for our College community as we prepare to farewell Mr Brian Loughland, Deputy Principal – Faith and Mission, following over 40 years of dedicated service to Catholic Education in the Broken Bay Diocese.
Brian has made an extraordinary contribution to the spiritual life and culture of the College. His leadership has been characterised by wisdom, humility, compassion, and a deep commitment to the Brigidine charism. Through liturgies, retreats, social justice initiatives, and his daily interactions with students and staff, Brian has helped nurture the faith-filled and inclusive spirit that is so valued within our community.
So many students have benefited from his guidance, pastoral care and unwavering belief in the dignity and potential of every young person. He has modelled what it means to lead with kindness, authenticity and hope, always encouraging our students to live with courage and a strong sense of justice in the world.
His contribution to the life of the College has been profound and enduring, and his legacy will continue to shape our community for many years to come.
On behalf of the entire College community, I extend our sincere gratitude to Brian for his years of dedicated service and wish him every happiness and blessing in his retirement. Brian will be with us at the College for the remainder of 2026 and we look forward to appropriately farewelling him with our community.
Uniform Expectations and Parent Support
Finally, I ask for the continued support of parents in reinforcing our College uniform expectations.
As a community, we take pride in the presentation of our students and the standards that reflect our shared values. Recently, staff have observed increasing inconsistency regarding kilt length and jewellery, in particular. We ask parents to work with us to ensure that girls attend the College in the correct uniform each day, including kilts worn at an appropriate length and jewellery limited to approved items only. The College Uniform policy can be found here and on the College Parent Portal.
I addressed with the students the importance of pride in the College uniform and their presentation in our assembly this week. In many ways, our uniform reflects our identity as a Brigidine community. It speaks to respect for self and others, a sense of belonging, and pride in the College. Consistent standards also help foster equality and support a positive learning environment for all students.
Your partnership in these matters is greatly appreciated and assists staff in maintaining clear and consistent expectations across the student body.
