Laetitia Richmond Editorial 2 February 2024

Welcome back to the 2024 school year at Brigidine College. Our students and staff have returned with great energy and excitement, ready to start a new year of learning and growing.

This year we are celebrating the College’s 70th year! Brigidine started its journey on this site on February 9 1954 with nine students. Throughout 2024 we will celebrate and honour our past and its traditions with some wonderful events to acknowledge this special occasion.

2024 also marks the commencement of work on our new gym. Students will have already seen that the current gym and courts are fenced off ready for work to begin. This is an exciting project that will transform our sporting precinct, giving us wonderful new facilities preparing the College for the future. To see the plans for the new building works and enjoy a computer-generated fly visit the College website: to https://www.brigidine.nsw.edu.au/news/#master-plan

We are also pleased to welcome Mrs Mary Radcliff back from leave.

We have had a fantastic start to our school year. On Tuesday 30 January, Year 7 students and new students from Years 8-11 began at Brigidine. I would like to congratulate them on a great first week, where they fully immersed themselves in high school life. I would also like to thank Ms Vicky Boyd Year 7 Coordinator, the Year 7 Mentor teachers, and our Year 12 student leaders who all made the smooth transition possible.

I would especially like to acknowledge our Year 12 Senior 10 Leaders who gave up the last day of their holidays to welcome and support our new incoming Year 7 students.

All students in Years 8-12 began on Wednesday 31 January, enthusiastic and eager to see their friends and teachers. As we begin the 2024 school year, we offer all Year 12 students our utmost support as they start their final year of schooling and continue to work towards their HSC (Higher School Certificate).

Brigidine staff have been working hard to be ready for your daughters’ return. They have been busy planning lessons and preparing their classrooms. Over the holidays, the College has undertaken several projects to improve school facilities and grounds. I would like to thank Mr Hodgson and the Property Team; they have been back on site since early January undertaking a huge schedule of work including creating new classrooms and a change room in the Murray wing.

The HSC Class of 2023 continued the tradition of outstanding performance in the HSC. We congratulate all the girls and teachers on the dedication they put into their final year which delivered them excellent results.

Brigidine was ranked 75th in the state and 11th amongst Catholic Girls schools. As a College we were 3rd in the state for Geography and 6th in the state for Drama. A wonderful result. We look forward to our HSC Assembly on 9 February when last year’s Year 12 will join us to celebrate their achievements. An overview of the 2023 HSC results can be found on the College website, click HERE to view.

As staff, we look forward to an exciting year focusing on learning and involvement in the school’s wider life with your daughters. This year as a community we will focus on the value of Hope. We will have the opportunity to use this as a focus particularly with our motto of Strength and Gentleness.

As we start our school year, I am confident that Brigidine students will take time to care for each other and our school. I ask them to strive for excellence and be proud of their achievements this year, to be involved in as much as they can here at Brigidine, celebrate their own successes and those of their friends.

We are proud of our Brigidine students and ask that they show their pride in their school by aiming to do their best, wear their uniform with respect and be leaders here at school and in their community.

Our teachers are here to support and challenge each student and they are very excited to see everyone back!

We all look forward to a wonderful year ahead.
