Laetitia Richmond Editorial 23 June 2023

As well as all the usual events of school life continuing!

This week Year 12 have led the College community in Spirit Week which is an end of term highlight and a Brigidine tradition. Our Founders Day Mass and Founders Day Celebrations capped off the end of a wonderful week, term, and semester! Thank you to Mrs Lovett and the Year 12 Mentor teachers for their important contribution to this day. Money raised throughout Founder’s Day will be donated to the Year 12 Charity ‘Sock it to Sarcoma’.

Today we farewell Mr David Chant. Mr Chant has been at Brigidine for 23 years fulfilling a variety of roles including Sports Coordinator, Duke of Ed, athletics and swimming coach and convenor, PDH and French teacher. Mr Chant is retiring from teaching and we wish him all the best for life beyond Brigidine. We also farewell Mrs Eleanor Preston, who has been with the College in the Languages Department for this last term. We wish Mrs Preston all the best as she moves to a school closer to home.

Thank you to Mrs Donielle Gale who has been Acting Year 11 Coordinator throughout Term 2. We wish her well for her long service leave in Term 3. Mrs Dunsmore will return in Term 3 as Year 11 Coordinator. We also wish Mrs Covich, Mrs Summerfield, Mr Usmar and Mrs Skinner the best for their LSL in Term 3. Mrs Summerfield is on leave all of term and Mrs Covich, Mr Usmar and Mrs Skinner are on leave for only part of the term.

I would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our Brigidine staff throughout this term and particularly teachers of Year 12 who are conducting holiday workshops for our HSC students.

Term 3 will begin with a staff development day. The focus of this day will be on understanding our students as contemporary learners and preparing for the upcoming changes to curriculum that are planned from 2024 onwards. We know that the day will be an opportunity for staff to explore and focus on deeper learning and how best to support and challenge students to extend their thinking and collaboration.

Wishing all students, their families and Brigidine staff a safe and happy holiday break!
