Laetitia Richmond Editorial 24 June 2022

Year 12 led the College community in Spirit Week this week which was an end of term highlight and a Brigidine Tradition. Our Founders Day Mass and Founders Day Celebrations capped off the end of a great week, term, and semester! Thank you to Mrs Dunsmore and the Year 12 Mentor teachers for their important contribution to this day. Money raised throughout Founder’s Day will be donated to the Year 12 Charity the ‘Indigenous Literacy Foundation’.

Congratulations to our newly elected Senior leaders who will shape the next twelve months with their vision and hopes for our community. Thank you to Mrs Lovett, Mrs Wacher and Mr Loughland for their work in the Leadership process.

Congratulations to Ms Leone Smyth who has been appointed to the permanent position of Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning. Ms Smyth has been in the acting role during the first semester of 2022.

Today we farewell Ms Caitlin Lambert, who has been with the College in the English Department for three years. We wish Caitlin all the best as she undertakes some much-anticipated travel. Thank you as well to Mrs Julie Gleeson (Social Science) and Mrs Lee Fitzgerald (Library) who have been with us during this term covering the place of staff on long service leave.

I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the Brigidine staff and particularly teachers of Year 12 who are conducting holiday workshops for our HSC students.

Term 3 will begin with a staff development day. The focus of this day will be on Aboriginal Spirituality and a deepening of staff understanding of this issue. The day will have a guest indigenous speaker, presentations from alumni who have worked in indigenous settings and some ceremonies led by a local indigenous elder. We hope the day is a starting point for a renewed focus on reconciliation and spark movement towards development of our own Reconciliation Action Plan.

Wishing all students, their families and Brigidine staff a safe and happy holiday break!
