Term 3 Highlights
We hit the ground running in Term 3 and it has continued to be a busy time with the last few weeks filled with important events in the life of the College. We transitioned our student leadership to the Class of 2025 and said farewell to the Class of 2024. Brigidine staff have been working hard to ensure a smooth end of term for all students and particularly preparing Year 12 for their upcoming HSC exams.
The assembly held on 11 September marked the Commissioning of our incoming College Captain, Vice-Captain and College Leaders for 2024/2025. Congratulations to Emilea Wallis and Caroline Cuda, elected as Captain and Vice-Captain.
Joining Emilea and Caroline are students elected to the Senior 10 group of leaders, House Captains and Cocurricular Captains.
The College motto of Strength and Gentleness reflects the expectations of our student leaders. They are encouraged to be role models of confidence, strength and optimism. Our hope is that they lead in a rapidly changing world with courage, integrity and wisdom, giving back to the school community with accountability and humility.
Leadership is an important but not always an easy role. My vision for them is that they can support and lead everyone in our community and enjoy a rich and rewarding year ahead. Our promise as their teachers is that we are here to support and guide them in their leadership journey.
I would like to thank our outgoing College Captain Natasha Townley and Vice-Captain Indie Smith, the Senior 10 and all our Year 12 leaders for their outstanding leadership and fantastic school spirit throughout 2024.
As we welcome our incoming leaders for 2024/2025, we wish them good luck in their mission. We are excited for their energy and ideas as they lead Brigidine into this coming year.
Our Class of 2024 graduation events were held this week. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate the end of the girls high school journey with parents and Brigidine staff who have worked closely with this cohort. Our Graduation Mass and Dinner were held Monday evening, followed by student led farewells at the College on Tuesday, culminating in the Graduation and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday. All these occasions have been a wonderful celebration of this outstanding group of students who have led Brigidine College with enthusiasm and great school spirit. In the following pages of Matters you will find photos and a list of award winners from the Class of 2024.
Some recent highlights of student activity have included:
- The HSC Showcase Exhibition was held on 20 August. The works were outstanding and it was wonderful to see so many parents and visitors appreciating the hard work and talent of our students and staff.
- HSC performance exams have now been held for Drama, Dance, Music and Languages. Major works have been handed in for Society and Culture, Visual Arts, Textiles and Extension subjects. We already have had several nominations for OnStage – a showcase of HSC excellence in Drama and CALLBACK a showcase of HSC excellence in Dance. The students nominated were mentioned in the last issue of Matters. Three Textile and Design students have also been nominated to be included in SHAPE and are acknowledged later in this edition of Matters.
- The HSC Music Evening was held on 5 September. Parents were able to see their daughters perform their final HSC pieces before an audience.
- The Festival of Music was a standout success over three huge nights, 21-23 August; Strings, Band and Vocals ensembles performed.
- Over 200 students performed in our Dance Spectacular for family and friends on 25 August. It was a fantastic night of outstanding Dance performances.
Thank you to our Parents and Friends Committee for the fantastic Trivia Night held on 24 August with the money raised going to our College Library.
This term we farewell Mrs Leigh-Anne Hartwig, following 19 years in the PDHPE department at the College. Mrs Hartwig is looking to pursue teaching opportunities in the tertiary sector. I thank her for her hard work, care and support for students at Brigidine.
We also say farewell to Mrs Helen Thomas, the College’s Head of Diverse Learning who has announced her resignation from the College after 14 years of service. Mrs Thomas and her husband moved to the Central Coast several years ago and she has been commuting to the College each day. They have now decided to focus their priorities on their property and living on the Central Coast. The College wishes her the best for the future and we thank her for her long service to the College.
Term 4 will begin on 14 October and the HSC exams commence on 15 October. We wish all Year 12 students the absolute best as they prepare for their upcoming exams.
Wishing all students, their families and Brigidine staff a safe and happy holiday break in the coming weeks!
