Welcome to Term 3.
The College is back and in full swing as you will see in this edition of Matters; Life doesn’t stand still at Brigidine! Thank you to all our teachers who make opportunities possible for students, their dedication and enthusiasm is inspiring.
This term we welcome Ms Lauren Hickey who is joining our Diverse Learning Faculty. Lauren is a Brigidine Alumna and joins us from Kilbreda College Mentone, Melbourne, another Kildare Ministries school. We also welcome Ms Caterina Wan der heyoten who joins the TAS department and Ms Sophie Randall who will be teaching Social Science and Science.
Congratulations to our students and staff who took part in the Red Dirt Immersion to western NSW. The opportunity to connect with rural and regional schools as well as immerse themselves in understanding remote communities was an invaluable experience. Thank you to Mrs Kate Ryder, Mrs Pamela Malone, Ms Vicky Boyd, Ms Sam Neader, and Mr David Chant who made this experience possible.
Term 3 marks the transition in School Student Leadership from Year 12 to Year 11. Our newly elected Year 11 Leaders will undertake a leadership camp during August in preparation for their year of leadership. We will formally commission our Leaders for 2024/2025 on 11 September.
Year 12 will undertake their Trial Exams for the HSC in the coming weeks beginning 5 August. This final exam block before the HSC is integral to shaping study routines and reviewing strategies with teaching staff at school in the lead up to final HSC exams in Term 4. Thank you to teachers of Year 12 who have been working with their students during the recent term break, generously running workshops to ensure that our Class of 2024 is HSC ready. We wish Year 12 all the best as they prepare for these significant exams.
Best wishes as well to our Year 12 students who are also finalising Major projects in practical subjects. Students in the Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Textiles, Design and Technology, Society and Culture, Extension English, Extension Science and Extension History will undertake HSC practical exams and submit projects this term.
Year 10 students are currently undertaking subject selection for senior school. Along with staff, I look forward to the opportunity to speak with parents and students at the upcoming Subject Selection Interviews. After the girls have made their initial subject choices, this will be a further opportunity to clarify choices and the impact on their future aspirations. Year 8 will also be involved in the selection of electives for study next year. Year 7 will select a language to study in Year 8 2025 in the coming weeks.
