Merry Christmas and Farewell
2024 has been an outstanding and busy year at Brigidine College as we celebrated our 70th Anniversary. Once again, our students have achieved and grown in their areas of passion and beyond. I would like to acknowledge them for their school spirit and the effort and enthusiasm that they constantly bring to their schoolwork, assessments and involvement in so many different activities.
On Monday and Tuesday this week we celebrated the achievements of our Year 7- 11 students at our annual awards ceremonies. We were delighted to have the opportunity to formally recognise and celebrate our students’ academic success and contribution to College life together with parents, friends and special guests: Mr Michael Kearney, Kildare Ministries Trustee, and Ms Christine Kay, Mayor of Ku-ring-gai Council.
This week we bid farewell to members of staff leaving Brigidine in 2024 who are moving on to to new chapters in their lives and new school communities.
- Ms Lily Ataei, Mr Patrick De Souza, Mrs Leslie McLeod, Mrs Joy Lee and Ms Kathryn Bortolussi leave us after being in temporary roles this year.
- Mrs Brodie Byrne, Mrs Jacqueline Bridges and Mrs Marine Choquenet will be taking long service leave in 2025.
- Mrs Jess Marino will be on parental leave in 2025.
- Mrs Sherryl Bremner, Head of History, retires after 27 years at Brigidine.
- Mrs Mary Radcliff from our Science Faculty retires after 20 years at Brigidine.
- Mrs Anne Reading who has been a Year Coordinator and member of the English and History Departments is moving to St Joseph’s College after 15 years at Brigidine.
In acknowledging each of these teachers we thank them for their contribution to the College community and we wish them every success and blessing in the future.
As a College community we are incredibly grateful for the generous support, time and energy our P&F. Thank you to our outgoing committee members Julie Charlton, Trina Leslie and Mirella Misquitta for their valuable contribution.
We appreciate the P&F commitment to fundraising and their willingness to help create and extend the values of welcome and hospitality at Brigidine.
Thank you to our College staff who actively support this group, including Mrs Pip Inman, Alumni and Community Relations Coordinator, who is also a past Brigidine parent and a past P&F President, and Mrs Mandy Loomes our Director Community Engagement.
The vision, support and good humour of our P&F Committee echo throughout our whole Brigidine parent community. Thank you for your support of the Brigidine staff as we journey with you and your daughters. We could not do our work without your partnership. We look forward to many opportunities to connect with you in 2025.
Thank you to my Leadership team for their ongoing support during 2024: Deputy Principals – Ms Leone Smyth and Mr Brian Loughland; Directors – Mr Ed Codsi, Mrs Mandy Loomes, Mrs Pamela Malone, Mrs Sia Mastro and Mr Owen Vale; and Business Manager Mr Richard Luxford.
Thank you to Mrs Michelle Dixon, Board Chair, and the College Board for the generosity of time, support and expertise that they give to me as Principal and all at the College.
Thank you to our parents and families for your continued support.
As we finish the school year and I end my time at the College, I know that 2025 at Brigidine will be a wonderful year full of learning, cocurricular activity, student leadership and social justice outreach and connection with our wider community. I have no doubt it will be a year of achievement and another proud moment in our journey.
I am extremely proud to have been part of Brigidine’s story and look forward to a continuing connection, especially hearing of the achievements of our students who are at the centre of all that is Brigidine. Thank you everyone for your best wishes and farewells. You have highlighted why Brigidine is such a special place.
Wishing all our students and their families a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday break. We look forward with anticipation of a new school year in 2025.
