Skills for Life: Café Brigo Success

Over the past term, our Stage 6 Life Skills students have been immersed in an authentic event management project, culminating in a special luncheon for invited staff guests.

Throughout the program, the students developed and applied a wide range of practical and employability skills while working together towards a shared goal. They collaborated to plan a menu, work within a budget, create shopping lists, purchase ingredients, safely store food items, and prepare their chosen dishes. In addition, they transformed the venue by decorating the dining space and tables, designing welcome mocktails, and curating a music playlist to create a warm and professional dining atmosphere.

Last Friday, their hard work came to fruition as invited guests were welcomed to Café Brigo and treated to a beautifully presented two-course meal. The menu featured homemade pies served with fresh salad, followed by a delicious finger lime slice accompanied by chocolate-dipped strawberries.

The event was an outstanding success, with guests highly impressed by the students’ professionalism, hospitality, organisation and attention to detail. The positive feedback received was a testament not only to their dedication, but also to the way they supported one another and worked as a team throughout the project.

Beyond delivering a memorable dining experience, the students have strengthened their confidence, teamwork, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. Experiences like Café Brigo reflect the importance of belonging in action – where every student contributes, is valued, and plays a meaningful role in a shared endeavour. These skills and experiences will serve them well as they prepare for graduation and future pathways beyond school.

Congratulations to all of the students involved. You should be incredibly proud of your achievements and the outstanding success of Café Brigo.
